Labor Day mattress sales 2024: Our team's top picks

We asked our team for their expert recommendations for the mattresses worth buying in this year's sales, and these are the ones they've chosen...

Saatva Classic mattress:was from $1,395$995 at Saatva

Saatva Classic mattress: was from $1,395 $995 at Saatva
The Saatva Classic is the best hybrid mattress of 2024 and my top choice at any time of the year. As we explain in our Saatva Classic mattress review it eases lower back pain, reduces pressure points during sleep, and doesn't cling onto excess body heat. You can buy it in three firmness levels and two heights, and get a year's trial, lifetime warranty and free mattress installation. Last year a queen Saatva Classic dropped to $1,595, but the MSRP has since increased by $100. This year's Labor Day sale price is $1,695, which matches the best Black Friday and Memorial Day discounts. You'd pay more for a luxury handcrafted mattress of this quality in store, so $1,695 for a queen is great value.

Nectar Memory Foam Mattress:was from $699now $499 at Nectar

Nectar Memory Foam Mattress: was from $699 now $499 at Nectar
If you're shopping the Labor Day sales for a good memory foam mattress that suits a variety of sleeping positions, the Nectar Memory Foam is my recommendation. Especially considering it's on sale for up to 40% off right now. I've seen this Nectar Mattress sale every month since late last year, but it's still great value for money and worth considering if you want an affordable all-foam bed but don't want to pay the earth. A queen Nectar Memory Foam Mattress is on sale for $649 (was $1,099), which is cheap considering how well it performed in our Nectar Mattress review. You get a year's trial, forever warranty and free shipping too.

Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress:was from $1,373.75now $1,030 at Helix Sleep

Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress: was from $1,373.75 now $1,030 at Helix Sleep
The Helix Midnight Luxe is my top choice this Labor Day, thanks to its outstanding pressure relief for side sleepers like me. As the lead tester during our Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review, I was impressed with its motion isolation, enhanced lumbar support and temperature regulation. Right now there’s 25% off the Luxe, which brings queen down to $1,780.35 (was $2,373.80). However, based on other major sales this year, I predict there'll be a 30% price drop this Labor Day. The Helix Midnight Luxe comes with a 15 year warranty, 100-night sleep trial, and two free pillows.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattresswas from $1,295now $895 at Saatva

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress: was from $1,295 now $895 at Saatva
The mattress on my wishlist for this year's Labor Day sales is the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress. The mattress offers both soothing pressure relief and firm support for all sleep styles, making it the dream bed for combination sleepers like me who lie on both their side and back. Plus, our testers for our Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid mattress review slept cool thanks to its gel-infused foam and breathable hybrid design. This mattress does sit in the premium price bracket, so it’s not a great option if you want a budget bed. That said, a queen is now $1,445 (was $1,845), saving you $400 in the Labor Day sales. You also get free white glove delivery, a year's trial and a lifetime warranty.

Cocoon by Sealy Chill Mattress:was from $619 now $399 at Sealy

Cocoon by Sealy Chill Mattress: was from $619 now $399 at Sealy
Recent heat waves have me dreaming of cooler sleep, which is why the Cocoon by Sealy Chill mattress is at the top of my Labor Day wish list. Offering effective high-tech cooling via Phase Change material, our Cocoon by Sealy Chill mattress review found the bed hugely supportive for those who, like me, prefer to sleep on their stomach. A queen is reduced to $699 (was $1,079) in the evergreen sale, which is an excellent price for one of the best cooling mattresses. This deal is evergreen, and you get a 100-night trial, 10-year warranty, and free bedding bundle. I don’t expect to see anything better for Labor Day, so buy now and beat the late summer heat.

Saatva RX mattresswas from $1,995 now $1,695 at Saatva

Saatva RX mattress: was from $1,995 now $1,695 at Saatva
As a sleep writer with lower back pain, the Saatva RX is top of my wish list in the Labor Day sales. In our Saatva RX mattress review, our tester rated this the best mattress for back pain, with the RX providing plenty of deep pressure relief and pain-reducing comfort. It’s not cheap, but I think it’s worth the investment if you’re constantly waking up with back pain. A queen mattress is already on sale for $2,995, taking $300 off the MSRP of $3,295. It’s not the biggest discount I’ve seen, with Saatva sometimes taking $350 or $400 off, but it’s still a big saving on a luxury mattress. And, as you might expect from a premium brand, you’ll also get a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free white glove delivery and removal of your old mattress and foundation.

DreamCloud Hybrid mattress:was from $1,013now $419 at DreamCloud Sleep

DreamCloud Hybrid mattress: was from $1,013 now $419 at DreamCloud Sleep
The DreamCloud Hybrid is for anyone like me who’s looking for a luxury hybrid without breaking the bank. This bed is perfect for side and combination sleepers thanks to its contouring comfort and exceptional support. It’s also a good choice for hot sleepers, thanks to the cooling gel-infused memory foam and breathable coil system. An evergreen 50% off sale brings the price of a queen down to $665 (was $1,483), plus you get a 365-night sleep trial, forever warranty and free shipping and returns. This is a great price that I don't expect to be beaten come Labor Day.

Our testers for the Casper Comfy Mattress Topper review were surprised at how cool it slept for a memory foam topper. Its impressive temperature regulation is down to the airflow-boosting AirScape perforated foam and a breathable soft-knit cover, which kept our lead tester sleeping cool and comfortable throughout the review process. Labor Day mattress sales 2024 FAQs

When is Labor Day 2024?

Labor Day is a federal holiday that falls on the first Monday in September each year. This year, Labor Day is on Monday September 2, kick-starting a long weekend for many Americans.

When will this year’s Labor Day mattress sales start?

A lot of leading mattress brands have already launched early Labor Day sales, but the vast majority of these are deals we see every month repackaged as Labor Day savings.

We’ve been tracking Labor Day mattress sales for years and, if previous events are any indication, you won’t see the best, genuine discounts until a week or two before Labor Day itself on Monday 2 September.

Why? Because the early bird deals we’re seeing right now are based on higher MSRPs (most mattress brands raise their prices over the summer months). Close to Labor Day, MSRPs start to drop and the bigger savings and cheaper prices (many that rival Black Friday) start surfacing.

Is Labor Day a good time to buy a new mattress?

Yes, Labor Day is an excellent time to buy a new mattress online or in store. These sales rival some of the best Black Friday mattress deals and discounts, so you can buy a top-rated mattress for much less than normal.

Last year, for example, Saatva sold its top-rated Saatva Classic luxury innerspring hybrid mattress for just $1,595 ($1,995 MSRP) for a queen size – for Black Friday it was on sale for $1,695, but the MSRP jumped up to $2,095. So even though the discount was the same, the Labor Day MSRP was lower, so the price you’d pay was cheaper.

Where to find this year’s best Labor Day mattress sales

Labor Day will be awash with mattress sales, both online and in store, but not all of them will be worth buying. We generally recommend buying direct from the manufacturer of the mattress you’re considering. That’s because, normally, you’ll get better benefits from them – a longer sleep trial, a longer warranty, free shipping and returns, and in some cases free bedding or other gifts.

Occasionally, a third party retailer such as Mattress Firm, Bed, Bath & Beyond, or Target will launch a bargain basement price that beats even the sale offered by the manufacturer. These are rare though and we’ll shout about them from the rooftops if we spot any this Labor Day.

Flash sales aren’t out of the question, but these usually appear in October and the run-up to Black Friday in November. Saatva and Nectar Sleep have traditionally run big flash sales for Labor Day and pre-Black Friday. We predict that Saatva will do something similar for Labor Day 2024. The same ‘up to 40% off’ Nectar mattress sale has been running since late last year so we don’t expect a bigger price drop this September.

Brands that we predict will launch big Labor Day mattress sales this year, with larger than average discounts:

  • Saatva
  • Purple
  • Casper
  • Tempur-Pedic
  • Brooklyn Bedding
  • Helix Sleep
  • Bear Mattress
